Construction Of Aquaponics Farm Systems
Climate-independent, resource-efficient production of healthy food
ECF Farmsystems develops, builds and operates aquaponic farmsystems that enable the sustainable production of high-quality food. In these systems, freshwater fish for a protein-rich diet and herbs, salads and vegetables for a vitamin-rich plant-based diet are produced directly for the food retail trade. The special features of the products are their freshness and shelf life, their special aroma, regional cultivation and year-round availability. Comparatively few resources are required and the farms generate high yields per area.
In the ECF farmsystems, food production is isolated from external influences such as wheather, climate and groundwater, which ensures a climate-independent, year-round and secure local supply of fresh food of the highest quality. At the same time, the success of these systems lies in their ability to be integrated into existing infrastructures, be it through water and energy cycles or the use of sunlight, through building partnerships and waste heat utilization or by reducing logistics emissions.
ECF is working directly and close with the food retail industry on intelligent partnership models that show enormous advantages: The ECF aquaponics systems can be set up quickly and in series and produce sustainable and regional food across the board at an attractive price. The security of supply and independence increases, the profitability and sustainability balance of the food retail partners are consistently improved with each location and with growing production volume, and the profile of the food retail partners is strengthened.
Four farms have now been set up in Berlin, Wiesbaden, Bad Ragaz (CH) and Brussels (BE). ECF operates the systems in Berlin and Wiesbaden itself and supplies several hundred REWE supermarktes. Further farms will be put into operation in the foreseeable future.
