As an Emergency Response Staff Attorney, you will leverage your legal expertise to make a substantial difference in the lives of survivors seeking justice and support. Your work will involve providing critical legal assistance and conducting intakes for eligibility assessment, contributing directly to our mission of empowering individuals affected by trafficking.Key Responsibilities• Respond to emergency cases in coordination with the social services team, conducting fact-finding intakes for potential victims, particularly those who have fled trafficking situations in the last 24 hours.• Perform legal screenings and offer initial legal assistance for urgent matters such as restraining orders, criminal defense, and victim-witness representation.• Manage a caseload of long-term cases, focusing on immigration relief, criminal defense, and civil litigation.• Facilitate connections for clients needing legal representation for their ongoing cases, either through internal resources or referrals to trusted partners.• Collaborate with social services and shelter personnel to ensure comprehensive support for survivors.• Advocate for policy changes that uphold the human rights of trafficked individuals, migrants, and low-wage workers.• Provide outreach, training, and technical assistance to legal aid organizations, law enforcement, and community partners.Required Skills• Active membership in the California State Bar.• Strong interpersonal skills and effective communication.• Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and nights as part of the emergency response rotation.• Experience managing caseloads and addressing emergency situations.• Proven capability to collaborate with legal service providers and diverse stakeholders.Qualifications• A demonstrated commitment to serving trafficked individuals, migrants, and low-wage workers.• Familiarity with the complexities surrounding trafficking and the needs of affected individuals.• Prior experience working with trauma or abuse victims.• Background in immigration, criminal law, family law, and/or victims’ rights advocacy is preferred.Career Growth OpportunitiesEngaging with our organization presents a unique opportunity for professional growth while making a profound impact on society.
