Job OverviewWe are seeking a dedicated and passionate Emergency Response Staff Attorney to join our legal team in the fight against human trafficking. In this pivotal role, you will utilize your legal expertise to provide essential support to survivors, offering legal aid and conducting intakes to assess eligibility for services.Key Responsibilities• Respond to urgent cases in partnership with the social services team, focusing on factual intakes for individuals seeking assistance, particularly those recently escaping trafficking situations.• Conduct legal screenings and provide immediate legal support for critical issues, including restraining orders and victim-witness representation.• Manage a caseload of long-term cases that encompass immigration relief, criminal defense, and civil litigation.• Assist clients in connecting with appropriate legal representation for long-term matters through both internal and external referrals.• Collaborate closely with social services staff to ensure comprehensive support for trafficking survivors.• Advocate for policy changes that uphold the human rights of trafficked individuals, migrants, and low-wage workers.• Provide outreach, training, and technical assistance to legal aid organizations, law enforcement, and community partners.Required Skills• Active membership in the California State Bar.• Strong interpersonal abilities and clear communication skills.• Proven capacity to work collaboratively with legal service providers and stakeholders.• Experience in managing caseloads and handling emergency cases effectively.• Flexibility to work varied hours, including evenings and nights, as part of the emergency response rotation.Qualifications• A commitment to serving trafficked individuals, migrants, and low-wage workers.• Familiarity with the complexities surrounding trafficking and the distinct needs of survivors is advantageous.• Bilingual skills are preferred.• Background in immigration law, criminal law, family law, or victims’ rights advocacy is desirable.Career Growth OpportunitiesIn this role, you will have ample opportunity for professional development through engagement with a dynamic team.
