About the Job

The SDI Risk Engineer is responsible for conducting and overseeing the implementation of actions identified from Risk Engineering Reviews, developing and conducting best practice and lessons-learned training sessions, assisting clients, our SDI Claims Director and third-party claims adjusters in the valuation of SDI claims, participating in underwriting meetings with existing and prospective clients and other duties as the role evolves over time. The Risk Engineer must build collaborative relationships with key client and broker staff to conduct on-site and on-line review of clients’ operations, controls and practices. This process serves two purposes: to identify findings and recommend implementation of new processes/controls to assist the client in minimizing and preventing loss, and to assist underwriting staff in evaluating the risk profile of individual clients and overall health of the portfolio. The SDI Risk Engineer is also responsible for identifying, developing, and implementing new processes and practices to improve Optio Group’s service to clients. To achieve this outcome the SDI Risk Engineer must develop an intimate knowledge of individual clients’ operating procedures and stay abreast of evolving risk issues and industry best practices which can prevent or mitigate these risks.


DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Carry out risk assessments to identify risk characteristics, the condition of risk, and mitigation measures undertaken by clients, to improve the risk profile of clients and reduce the potential of claims
  • Participate in underwriting meetings with new and existing clients to assist with evaluation of their operating procedures and risk mitigation strategies
  • Investigate losses to determine root cause, level of responsibility of different parties and identify lessons learned and corrective actions to prevent and mitigate similar future losses from recurring
  • Maintain risk engineering and related claims databases to document and monitor implementation of risk engineering recommendations, service levels and overall health of the portfolio.
  • Maintain a deep understanding of conceptual knowledge of leading SDI risk management and risk mitigation practices
  • Maintain superior interpersonal, negotiation, influencing and communication skills with the ability to positively engage an audience, challenge traditional orthodoxy, and tenaciously pursue opportunities for client improvement and capability development
  • Maintain superior written report preparation and presentation skills that demonstrate robust analysis, clarify key issues and engage the commitment of clients to recommended actions and strategies for resolution
  • Identify opportunities to improve the risk selection and underwriting process to improve the quality of the company’s SDI portfolio.
  • Work closely with underwriters in the identification and implementation of alternative review processes including quality management reviews and other services,
  • Identify opportunities for improvement within the virtual review process, tools, and technology
  • Work with underwriting and other team members to implement changes that will ensure maximum efficiency and quality while minimizing cost
  • Visit client offices and project sites as needed.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Superior client relationship management skills with expertise and confidence to encourage and persuade clients to recommended course of action
  • Bachelor's Degree (BA) from four-year college or university, or one to two years of related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
