    Overview

    We are seeking a full-time Software Engineer 2 in our Olathe, KS location. In this role, you will be responsible for developing backend services for our fitness and outdoor products.

    Essential Functions

    • Develops and maintains Java-based services using Spring, Junit, REST, and relational databases. Experience with big data and Elasticsearch is a plus
    • Works collaboratively with stakeholders and other Garmin associates in cross functional teams to achieve goals and meet deadlines
    • Provides reliable solutions to a variety of problems using sound problem solving techniques
    • Performs technical root cause analysis and outlines corrective action for given problems
    • Applies a sense of urgency, commitment, and focus on the right priorities in developing solutions in a timely fashion
    • Estimates level of effort, evaluates new options of similar technology and offers suggestions to improve processes
    • Supports working hours as part of a rotating schedule to provide on call support of Garmin’s 24/7 operations


    Basic Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or related field AND a minimum of 1 year relevant experience OR an equivalent combination of education and experience
    • Excellent academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.0 as a general rule)
    • Demonstrated proficiency and experience necessary to develop moderately complex software in Java, Spring framework, Spring Boot, JDBC, Kafka, Git, and Maven


    Desired Qualifications

    • Outstanding academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.5)
    • Previous work or internship experience in design, particularly for consumer products
