Role Overview:

The Financial Accountant will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, processing financial transactions, and supporting the preparation of financial reports. The Financial Accountant will also assist with audits, tax filings, and other financial reporting tasks to support the overall financial health of the business.

Reporting lines: This role reports into the Financial Controller.

Location: Dubai

Key Responsibilities (include but not limited to):

General Ledger and Financial Transactions

• Maintain the general ledger, ensuring that all financial transactions are accurately recorded and classified.
• Prepare and post journal entries for accruals, prepayments, and other adjusting entries.
• Perform regular reconciliations of balance sheet accounts, including cash, accounts receivable, accounts payable, and inventory.
• Review and process expense reports, ensuring expenses are properly coded and within policy.
• Ensure compliance with internal controls and governance standards.
• Manage the invoicing and settlements process for non-trading items (e.g., administrative expenses).
• Maintain the fixed asset register and calculate depreciation in line with accounting standards.
• Contribute to the maintenance and update of accounting policies.

Financial Reporting and Compliance

• Assist in the preparation of financial reporting/statutory accounts, ensuring accuracy and compliance with accounting standards.
• Support the preparation and submission of financial materials to relevant authorities.
• Support the annual external audit by providing documentation, reconciling accounts, and addressing auditor inquiries.
• Assist external consultants in preparing tax filings, ensuring compliance with local tax regulations and corporate tax policies.
• Implement a comprehensive financial calendar to track critical deadlines, reporting dates, and compliance requirements.

Required Experience / Qualifications

• Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent).
• 5+ years of experience in accounting or finance, with a focus on general ledger, financial reporting, and reconciliations. Experience in the oil trading, energy, or commodities sectors is advantageous.
• Ability to work in a fast-moving, early-stage trading organisation, supporting growth while ensuring control and risk management objectives are met.
• Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting standards (IFRS).
• Proficiency with accounting software and ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics) and advanced Excel skills.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with internal teams and external auditors.
