The Martinez Downtown Attendant will perform a range of duties to improve overall cleanliness of a specific downtown area, and improve public hospitality and public safety and primarily focused on keeping Main Street, Castro Street, Estudillo Street, Ferry Street, Las Juntas Street, Ward Street, and Escobar Street maintained to acceptable standards.
The Downtown Attendant will be responsible for keeping public areas clean, organized, and presentable by performing a variety of grounds keeping and minor maintenance tasks, and may also assist the public answering questions, and providing information or directions. This position requires exceptional customer service skills and a friendly and helpful demeanor to interact with the public.
This position will collaborate with the Police Department's Strategic Enforcement Team (SET) to improve the quality of life for residents, visitors, and business owners downtown. SET is staffed by two police officers focused on community problem solving.
Work will be performed under the supervision of the Public Works Superintendent.
Assist with seasonal maintenance of landscaping β including but not limited to: pruning, weeding, watering, and removing of leaves.
Provide customer service to the downtown visitors.
Perform routine manual work as required.
Cleaning And Maintenance
Assist with litter removal: clean sidewalks, public plazas by sweeping up litter, and debris, emptying garbage and recycling.
Collect and dispose of trash and litter.
Identify and report maintenance issues such as damaged property or landscaping problems to the department.
Minimum
High school diploma or equivalent; good physical condition to perform strenuous outdoor work; ability to pass a pre-employment physical examination; possess a valid Class C California driver's license or obtain one within six (6) months of hire date with a satisfactory driving record.
Desirable
Knowledge of the purpose and use of common hand and portable power tools used in grounds or public works maintenance activities; ability to perform physical work requiring coordination, agility, strength, and stamina; to understand and carry out oral and simple written instructions; and to learn the duties of the position and the operation of hand and portable power tools.
