The City of Torrance is recruiting for an Bookkeeper to be part of the Cultural Arts Center Team!

The Department

The Cultural Arts Center is a division of the City of Torrance General Services Department. The General Services Department provides quality services that support City departments in a manner which enable them to carry-out their community missions and provide these services in a cost-effective and efficient manner which best serves the operational needs of City departments and the community.

Responsibilities of the General Services Department include: Airport Administration, Building Maintenance, Central Services, Cultural Arts Center Administration, Custodial, Fleet Services, Graffiti Abatement Program, HVAC / Electrical, and Warehouse.

The Position

Under general supervision, the Bookkeeper performs responsible clerical work in connection with preparing or reviewing financial or statistical records for the Cultural Arts Center. The Bookkeeper is responsible for maintaining and verifying financial records, including deposits, invoices, payrolls, and purchase orders. Duties include preparing reports, reconciling accounts, and responding to public inquiries while providing information about the Torrance Cultural Arts Center. The bookkeeper also operates standard office and bookkeeping equipment, reviews the work of clerical staff, and assists in developing procedures to ensure accurate financial recordkeeping.

QUALIFICATION GUIDELINES

Education And Experience

Any combination of education and experience that provides the knowledge and skills required is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and skills would be: Three years of experience in the maintenance and review of financial records and statistical records. This experience must be supplemented by courses in bookkeeping, accounting, or financial record keeping.

Ideal Candidate

In addition to the minimum requirements, the ideal candidate will possess:

  • Ability to make arithmetic calculations quickly and accurately;
  • Carry out assigned work without close supervision;
  • Maintain accurate and clear financial and statistical records;
  • Analyze and interpret fiscal and accounting records;
  • Assist in designing forms and developing procedures for keeping financial records;
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with the public and other City employees;
  • Use initiative and judgment in discussing problems with the public involving office practices and policies;
  • Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

The City's monthly contribution for vision insurance is $3.33

The City's monthly contribution for dental insurance is $33.71/EE only and $67.42/EE +1 or more

The City provides a Cash In-Lieu payment of $400 per month for eligible full-time employees for as long as the employee opts-out of medical coverage

City provides a $50,000 life insurance policy

Employee receives 2/3 base pay after elimination period (14 consecutive days for STD and 180 consecutive days for LTD)

Bereavement Leave (sec 3.8)

Up to five (5) work shifts of bereavement leave; three (3) shifts with pay and two (2) shifts without pay per death of eligible family members

Educational Materials Allowance (Sec. 3.12)

$183.88 allowance paid in February for tool and educational materials.

Vehicle Allowance (Sec. 3.13)

Area G Executive Director: $370.00 monthly

Night Shift Differential (sec.4.3)

Base hourly pay range employees paid 5% above average base hourly pay when ½ or more of the shift is scheduled to work after 4:00 p.m. or before 8:00 a.m.

Premium Pay (sec.4.6)

Workers' Comp Claim Examiner: 5% premium for State of CA Self Insurance Administrator's certificate
